From the President: The HPS Runs on Volunteers

Liz Brackett, HPS President, 2023–2025

Greetings, all. This month I'd like to take the opportunity to congratulate our recently elected Board members: President-elect Mike Lewandowski, Secretary-elect Kendall Berry, and Directors Greg Fairchild and Matt McFee. I'd also like to extend my sincere thanks to all who ran. The Health Physics Society (HPS) runs on volunteers and I'm thankful to all who are willing to offer their time.

The new members will take office near the end of the IRPA 16/69th HPS Annual Meeting in July. You may ask why the election is conducted so far in advance. Good question! The intent is for new members to take advantage of the intervening time to attend Board meetings to become familiar with processes and issues so that they're prepared to participate as soon as their terms begin. Additionally, the directors select their committees and sections for the upcoming year during the winter Board meeting. I'm planning to begin working with the directors on appointing committee chairs and members for the upcoming year in the next month so that they too can hit the ground running come July. If you're interested in volunteering for a committee, go to Volunteer to Serve on a Health Physics Society Committee (hps.org). Note that you must be logged in to get to this page. Contacting a committee chair directly is another good way to volunteer.

I look forward to working with all of our volunteers in the upcoming year!
