The National Academies Hanford Report Briefing

The National Academies will hold "Review of the Continued Analysis of Supplemental Treatment of Low-Activity Waste at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation: Report Release Briefing" on 6 June 2023, 12–6pm PT.

The Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Washington state is the site of the largest and most complex nuclear cleanup challenges in the United States. Join this report release briefing as a committee from the National Academies discusses its final review of the Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) report on supplemental low-activity waste treatment alternatives for the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.

The FFRDC report is an important document for decision makers that delivers a regulatory overview and describes methods used to analyze treatment alternatives (vitrification, fluidized bed steam reforming, and grouting) and results from the comparative analysis. The committee's review of the report, the third in an iterative series, sought input from a variety of stakeholders and the public.

This hybrid meeting, held in person in Richland, Washington, and livestreamed, will provide an opportunity for members of the community, representatives from the states of Washington and Oregon, regional tribal nations, and other local stakeholders to share their perspectives and insights on the report. Registration is required to attend in person or virtually. For more information, visit the project web page.
