John Cardarelli, HPS President, 2021–2023
Campus Radiation Safety Officers (CRSO) is a voluntary scientific and professional society that was formed in the '70s to support health physicists working specifically in educational environments.
In September 2021, CRSO formed a joint venture with the Academic, Industrial, Research Radiation Safety Section (AIRRS) of the Health Physics Society (HPS) and signed a Memorandum of Understanding. To further support this joint venture, CRSO donated its existing funds to AIRRS with the understanding and intent to continue the vision of CRSO. In fostering the mission of the CRSO, AIRRS will utilize these funds to continue and further promote information exchanges on matters relevant to and affecting academic, industrial, medical, and research radiation safety initiatives.
AIRRS has stated objectives that overlap well with CRSO's vision and mission of information exchange in support of educationally oriented radiation safety.
HPS recognizes CRSO for this huge donation of about $46,000. By combining funds and some resources of CRSO and AIRRS, more effective methods of accomplishing mutual goals may be implemented to the benefit of all.
This couldn't have been completed without the tireless efforts of several members from both CRSO and AIRRS leadership. HPS truly thanks and acknowledges the large donation from CRSO. Special mention goes to CRSO President Ninni Jacob and AIRRS president-elect/HPS Director Latha Vasudevan.
Finally, I would be remiss if I don't mention our upcoming national holiday of Thanksgiving. I want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving and hope it is filled with abundance and bright moments. I am truly grateful for all the volunteers supporting our Society, making it the home for radiation protection professionals.
