2022 HPS Student Support Committee Annual Meeting Events

Caleigh Samuels, Committee Member, and Dawn Montgomery, Committee Chair

The 67th Annual Health Physics Society (HPS) Meeting will be held 17–21 July in a hybrid format with virtual and in-person attendance options in Spokane, Washington.

The HPS Student Support Committee (SSC) is excited to be able to host all our regular events this year! The SSC Sponsored events will include:

  • Speed Networking & Reception (17 July): The in-person Speed Networking Event will be held on 17 July from 3:30 pm until 4:45 pm at the Spokane Convention Center, Room 206B. After the resounding success of the first Speed Networking Event in 2019, the SSC is excited to once again host the dynamic and engaging event aimed at allowing students and early career professionals to connect with more experienced individuals within the HPS in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Everyone is welcome, and snacks will be provided!

Please contact Dawn Montgomery for more information.

  • Quiz Bowl (17 July): This year's Quiz Bowl will be held on 17 July from 5 to 6:30 pm at the Spokane Convention Center, Room 206C. The Quiz Bowl is a great chance to exercise your health physics muscles! Students and young professionals, meaning those yet to become a CHP, are encouraged to participate. The questions will range from "you should know this" to advanced, with some fun trivia mixed in! You can sign up as an individual (to be grouped at the event) or as a team of 3–4 by emailing HPSQuizBowl@gmail.com.

Please contact Norbert Hugger for more information or to sign up!

  • Hybrid Committee Meeting (20 July): Our committee meeting will take place on Wednesday afternoon, 20 July from 2:30 to 3:30 pm in Room 401A (please check the conference program for the final time and location). The committee meeting is open to all who want to get involved in HPS and the SSC, especially students who would like to become committee members! We could always use volunteers to help plan and run our events, develop new ideas to engage and support HPS student members, and act as student representatives of the Society. Options are available to join in person or virtually via Zoom (from Pathable, the virtual conference platform).

Please contact Dawn Montgomery for more information.

Many other events will be of interest to students throughout the meeting as well! Here are a few you don't want to miss:

  • Student Worker Orientation: If you are a student worker, be sure to attend this orientation session Saturday (16 July), from 5 to 6 pm at the Davenport, Meeting Room 3.
  • Exhibitor-Sponsored Lunches: Monday (18 July) and Tuesday (19 July) at 12 pm in Exhibit Hall A.
  • Welcome Reception: Monday (18 July) from 5 to 6:30 pm in Exhibit Hall A.
  • Poster Session: Monday (18 July) from 6 to 7 pm in the Exhibit Hall A.
  • Awards Luncheon: Wednesday (20 July) from 12 to 2:30 pm at the Spokane Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B.

Also, remember that all technical sessions are open to students, and, as an added benefit, students can attend any PEPs free of charge (as long as there is space in the room)!

We encourage and welcome all students, early career professionals, and anyone who wants to get involved with HPS students through our committee and/or mentor and networking programs to attend any of our events! We are looking forward to seeing you in person in Spokane or virtually in a few weeks!
