Student Corner – Interview Strategies Webinar

Johnson Aina, Idaho State University, and Jordan Noey, University of Michigan

The Health Physics Society (HPS) Student Support Committee is pleased to announce its first webinar for the year—"Interview Strategies" will be held on 23 May 2023, 11 am PST/12 pm MST/1 pm CST/2 pm EST.

You got the interview, so now what? The interviewing process can be a nerve-wracking experience. In this webinar, we will explore interview strategies from experienced health physicists that help candidates communicate their skills and experience to potential employers. Attendees will be able to come away with practical tips and insights in enhancing their interviewing skills and nail that interview. Whether you are a recent graduate or seasoned professional, this webinar will provide valuable insights and information to succeed in any kind of interview.

We are pleased to have Tom Morgan, PhD, CHP; Chu Wang, PhD, DABMP, CHP; and Lisa Manglass, PhD, at the panel discussion sharing great tips and ideas on the subject matter.

Dr. Tom Morgan graduated with a PhD in radiological sciences from the University of California, Irvine in 1983. He is a certified health physicist and is licensed to practice medical health physics in Texas, Florida, and New York. He has been the radiation safety officer for three major university/hospital/medical school institutions and one private company from 1994 through 2018. He has been a hiring manager at three of these institutions.

Dr. Chu Wang graduated from McMaster University with a BS in medical and health physics and from Duke University with an MS and a PhD, both in medical physics (medical health physics concentration). Chu is certified by the American Board of Health Physics as a certified health physicist and the American Board of Medical Physics in the medical health physics specialty. Chu currently serves as the radiation safety officer at Duke University. He also teaches courses and supervises the thesis research of a small number of graduate students for Duke's Medical Physics Graduate Program as an assistant professor of radiology. Presently, he is a director of the HPS Medical Health Physics Section and the president of the HPS Early Career Professionals Section.

Dr. Lisa Manglass is an assistant professor supporting Francis Marion University's undergraduate health physics program. She is an alumnus of Colorado State University's health physics master's program and earned her PhD at Clemson University. She has worked as an environmental health physics consultant for eight years in Denver, Colorado, and is the past president of the HPS Environmental/Radon Section.

This webinar promises to be exciting, educative, and informative. Attendees would be given a chance to ask questions and receive clarity on any confusing issues regarding interview strategies. Participants are encouraged to register via Interview Strategies and follow us on all of our platforms, including Facebook, Linkedln, and Discord to learn more about exciting and educative events lined up for our benefits.
