HPS Web Operations
The 67th Health Physics Society (HPS) Annual Meeting was held in Spokane, Washington, 17–21 July 2022. The meeting was fully hybrid and included both in-person and virtual options. Here is part 2 of our photos of meeting happenings—we will be sharing more soon.
If you attended the meeting live or virtually, you can view sessions by logging into the meeting site using the link you were sent when you registered. The Sign In button is at the top right side of the page. The sessions are available from the Schedule tab.
If you have trouble finding/accessing your Pathable link, email meetings@HPS.org and ask to have your sign-in information sent to you.
If you did not previously register and would like to view sessions from the meeting, register on the meeting website.

Elda Anderson Breakfast
The Elda Anderson Breakfast was held Monday, 18 July, in honor of past and present recipients of the HPS Elda E. Anderson Award. Early Career Member Gianna Porro's Meeting Experience

This past July I had the opportunity to attend the HPS Annual Meeting in Spokane. Through this event I was able to expand my knowledge on current events and research topics throughout the health physics field. I am currently a health physicist (HP) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) within the radiation protection functional area. As an HP at LLNL, I provide field support to the operations and business organization, develop and revise policies in accordance with 10 CFR 835, and am currently in training to provide support for emergency response at LLNL's National Atmospheric Release Advisory Center. I joined the HPS to find a group of like-minded professionals to help grow both professionally and personally within my career. One of the biggest draws of the HPS was the diverse and multidisciplinary nature, from academic to industrial to government relations aspects of health physics.
The most notable experience of the conference was the overwhelming amount of support from fellow HPs and their eagerness to offer guidance and share their experience within the field. As someone who is starting their career in the industry, it is important to learn about different areas of emphasis and research within health physics. In addition to networking with a wide variety of scientists with expertise in varying topics, the annual conference was a great opportunity for continuing education. As I am transitioning from academia to industry, it was helpful to hear about others career paths and gain the opinion of industry professionals. As I solidify the trajectory of my career, it was inspiring to have a group of knowledgeable individuals who I can consider mentors.
I am so thankful for my experience at the conference and the connections I have made, I look forward to making a lasting contribution within this field.
Health Physics Society Garage Sale, 2022 Edition

HPS held another garage sale at the meeting in Spokane and the items for sale included several old survey meters, several old books (some predating the 1950s), and miscellaneous items. Some items of interest were a magnet of Miss Atomic bomb from 1957, an action figure of Einstein, and an old Nuclear Chicago absorber kit from the mid-50s. At last count, the auction raised over $1,700 for scholarships and student travel grants for the Society.

5K Fun Run/Walk
The 5K Fun Run/Walk was held Tuesday morning, 19 July. The course began on the river side of the Spokane Convention Center and followed the Centennial Trail east, across the Spokane River, through the Gonzaga University campus, to Mission Park, and back. Awards were presented after the run and runners received T-shirts.

HPS Publications Booth
The HPS Publications team – including, left to right, Health Physics Managing Editor Mary Gene Ryan, Health Physics Editor in Chief Brant Ulsh, Health Physics Editorial Assistant Deanna Baker, and Web Operations Editor in Chief Barbara Hamrick – greeted attendees with information about HPS publications, invited suggestions, and answered questions. Attendees who filled out a survey were entered into a drawing for radiation-related books. Kathy McLellan, far right, was one of the lucky winners.

This year's Night Out took place Wednesday, 20 July, at O'Doherty's Irish Grille and Pub, a short walk from the Davenport Grand. Attendees enjoyed a delicious Irish meal followed by Songs and Stories of the Pacific Northwest by noted Northwest folk entertainer Hank Cramer. Hank is in high demand for folk festivals, concerts, and cultural presentations, and hails from Winthrop, Washington (home to HPS Past President Nancy Kirner). He even has some ties to our profession as a retired emergency planner. Check out his website at hankcramer.com.
