National Academies Releasing New Report on Low-Dose Radiation Research

The National Academies is scheduled to release the new report "Leveraging Advances in Modern Science to Revitalize Low-Dose Radiation Research in the United States" on 2 June 2022 at 2 pm (ET). At that time, the report will become available at the National Academies Press website. Authored by a committee of experts convened by the National Academies, the report identifies the health and safety issues that need to be guided by an improved understanding of low-dose and low-dose-rate radiation health effects. The report recommends a long-term strategic and prioritized research agenda and identifies essential elements for program management and coordination of low-dose radiation research across federal agencies and with national and international projects and programs.

The National Academies is planning for several activities to inform interested parties about the report's findings and recommendations and receive comments:

  • On 3 June, 11 am–12:30 pm (ET), Dr. Joe Gray, committee chair, and a small group of committee members will provide a virtual briefing on the report. Interested parties can add the briefing to their Outlook calendar from the virtual briefing web page. This is a public meeting open to everyone.
  • For the period 3–17 June, interested parties can provide comments on the report using the "Provide feedback on this project" button on this page. Submissions will be placed in the study's Public Access File and also transmitted to the study sponsor. The submissions will include the email address and any identifying information provided by the commenters and will be available to the public upon request. The committee and Academies staff will not be responding to the comments received through this process. The National Academies is committed to facilitating an information request that promotes responsible and ethical behavior. Comments may not include violent threats or language or any discriminatory or derogatory language, and the National Academies reserves the discretion to remove any such comments from the Public Access File.
  • On 16 June, 11 am–1:30 pm (ET), the National Academies will host a virtual town hall to provide an opportunity to interested parties to ask questions and provide additional comments on the report. Interested parties can add the town hall to their Outlook calendar from the town hall web page. This is a public meeting open to everyone.
