IRPA Young Generation Network Launching in June

Jess Revill, Society for Radiological Protection, Rising Generations Group (UK) Chair

The International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA) will be officially launching its Young Generation Network (YGN) at the Fifth European IRPA Congress in June this year. IRPA YGN is open to students and radiation protection professionals (or professionals in allied fields) in the first 10 years of their career and aims to support less experienced individuals by offering them opportunities to network with other specialists from around the world. Currently the IRPA YGN Leadership Committee is headed by representatives from Austria, France, the United Kingdom, and Japan. We will be hosting a special session at the congress with individual countries presenting details of their specific YGN activities and how this knowledge can be shared to establish or benefit YGN groups in other regions.

The IRPA YGN Leadership Committee also encourages young radiation protection professionals to get involved in the following IRPA work groups/committees:

  • Public Understanding Task Group.
  • Society Admissions and Development Committee.
  • Radioactive Source Security Task Group.
  • Higher Education, Research and Teaching (HERT) Radiation Safety Culture Task Group.
  • Rules Committee.
  • IRPA15 International Congress Programme Committee.
  • Publications Commission.

This is a great opportunity to work together with some of the leading experts in the field and make a contribution on an international level. The committees/task groups conduct their work over the internet/phone, so there should be no obligation to travel to meetings. Applications are open to all members of national radiation protection YGNs and, where a national YGN is not in place, students or professionals working within the first 10 years of their career in the field of radiation protection or its allied fields.

If you are interested, send a short paragraph (no more than 250 words) by 31 May 2018 to Jess Revill explaining which group/committee you wish to support and why. The IRPA YGN Leadership Committee will review all applications and inform the successful candidate in due course. Learn more about the IRPA YGN on its Facebook page.
