Nurse Magnetic Field Exposure During Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Procedures
G.M. Sturchio; B.H. Bushman; and K.J. Roebuck (Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota)
With the advent of interventional MRI procedures and other procedures requiring nurses to remain in the scan room for patient monitoring, Radiology Nursing and Radiation Safety decided to investigate the occupational magnetic field exposure to the nursing staff. Nursing staff magnetic field exposures were recorded at two MRI units, involving three different procedures, using a magnetic field monitor. The measurement data were compared to national and international guidance to evaluate the potential health hazard.
