Schauer Named New ICRU Executive Secretary

The International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements (ICRU) has announced that David A. Schauer, ScD, assumed the duties and responsibilities of executive secretary on 1 June 2014.

Dr. Schauer has over 30 years of experience in the areas of radiation protection and measurements. From 2004 to 2012, he served as executive director, secretary, and treasurer of the congressionally chartered National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP). In 2012, he became executive director emeritus and project manager at NCRP. Prior to his work at NCRP, Schauer served in various scientific and leadership positions as a radiation specialist in the U.S. Navy. He has also volunteered his time on expert committees for the World Health Organization and International Atomic Energy Agency and served as a health physics program evaluator for the Accreditation Board on Engineering and Technology.

In addition to his duties with ICRU and NCRP, Schauer will continue to serve as an adjunct associate professor at Georgetown University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
