Magnusson to Chair IEM on Radiation Protection

The sixth International Experts Meeting (IEM) on Radiation Protection After the Fukushima Daiichi Accident will take place at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Headquarters in Vienna, Austria, 17–21 February 2014.

The IAEA announced that Sigurdur Magnusson, director of the Icelandic Radiation Safety Authority, has accepted the IAEA's invitation to chair this important meeting. Magnusson is a renowned expert in the field of radiation safety and has vast experience on many high-level committees, including the International Commission on Radiological Protection and the International Radiation Protection Association. As a former chairman of the Radiation Safety Standards Committee (RASSC) and delegate to the IAEA General Conference, Magnusson has been closely involved in the work of the IAEA over many years. Magnusson's experience renders him highly qualified to lead the proceedings of the IEM, which will address topics such as Exposures and Exposure Pathways, Management of Exposures, Medical and Societal Aspects, Remediation, Communication, and Operational Case Studies.
