The Health Physics Society's Scientific and Public Issues Committee (S&PIC) has recently revised the position statement "Ionizing Radiation-Safety Standards for the General Public." The revision added one more recommendation that supports the establishment of a dose level of 1 mSv/y (100 mrem/y) as an "acceptable dose of radiation." The S&PIC has the responsibility for development of official Health Physics Society positions.
