Answer to Question #854 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"

Category: Radioactive Waste Disposal — Disposal

The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field:

Q
URGENT: Please send me color photos of different types of radioactive waste canisters, casks, and logs, especially those used for marine shipment.
A
The number of radioactive material containers available for shipping by different methods is too large to address in this response. The type of container used for a specific purpose depends on the quantity of material, the type of radioactive waste, and the shipping method. International container specifications for various shipping options are given in International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Safety Series Publication No. 37 on Safe Transport of Radioactive Materials (1990) which is available on the Internet on the "Books and Publications" page of the IAEA Web site.
