Answer to Question #65 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"Category: Instrumentation and Measurements — Surveys and Measurements (SM) The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field: Q
I want to purchase a device that measures radioactivity for my home. My son works in a nuclear power plant. What type of device would you recommend? How would I obtain this device?
A
We assume that you wish to monitor radioactive contamination such as that which might be on clothing. To do that you might wish to purchase a small end window Geiger Counter. You should refer to our Web site and the list of Affiliates to find a place where you can obtain this device. To do this go to "About the Society" and then click on "Affiliates." The list is long. I would suggest you start by contacting companies such as Ludlum, Aptec, and Eberline. Other companies carry the devices too. If a vendor sees this posting he may wish to contact you.
