Answer to Question #3696 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"

Category: Microwaves, Radar, and Radiofrequency — Satellite Dishes

The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field:

Q

My sister lives in a housing association house. The association erected a very large satellite dish approximately five feet in diameter onto the side of my sister’s house, along with a very high antenna, both situated outside her daughter’s bedroom window. I am very worried about my niece’s health—she sleeps right under the window where this dish is located. What are the dangers to my niece’s health?

A

The antenna is a receiver only. It absorbs radio or TV signals from the atmosphere. It emits no radiation.

Conclusion: No reason for concern.
