Answer to Question #354 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"

Category: Medical and Dental Patient Issues — Diagnostic X Ray and CT

The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field:

Q
I work in the Imaging Department of a community hospital. Do you know of a source that can provide us with basic radiation risk information that's suitable for patient education (including pregnant patients) prior to their undergoing diagnostic imaging?
A
Our medical procedures expert, Kelly Classic, Certified Medical Health Physicist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, uses a brochure published by the Mayo Clinic, Information about Radiation Exposure in X-Ray Examinations. She sent me a copy of the brochure. It has basic radiation information in it and is easy to read. It also includes a few statements for pregnant or potentially pregnant patients. If you would like a copy please email me your address and I will send it to you. Gen Roessler, Editor HPS Web Site
