Answer to Question #27 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"

Category: Radon

The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field:

Q
How do I build a house to protect against radon? Who do I contact if a neighbor's well has radon?
A
The Environmental Protection Agency has a number of excellent reports out that will provide advice for you. Go to the EPA Web site and search for the following reports: EPA/600/F-94/035 and EPA/625/2-91/032. The second one describes a manual that you can order from EPA (by clicking on ORDER on that page) that "provides a basic understanding of the types and products and systems that are available and being used to reduce radon concentrations indoors." You can place your order on line. There is no mention of a price so I assume it is free.

With regard to your second question, are you trying to help your neighbor get rid of radon in his well? If so, you might try contacting your state health department for assistance.
