Category: Consumer Products — Antiques and Radioactive Quack Cures

The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field:

Q
I acquired a lamp, the base of which is made from an old dental x-ray machine. I am concerned as to whether this metal base may be in any way a danger. I can't see how but just wanted to check.

Many thanks.
A
Your suspicions are correct; parts from an old dental x-ray machine will not pose any danger. X-ray machines produce radiation when they are completely constructed and energized, but the parts do not become radioactive and there is no radiation once the machine is turned off. I hope this alleviates your concern.
