Answer to Question #1666 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"

Category: Consumer Products — Electronic: TV, Computers

The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field:

Q
Does radiation emitted from television pose a risk to a newborn baby if the cot is placed near such devices?
A
Modern television receivers emit very little radiation, as long as they are functioning properly. They are also designed to be fail safe. That is, any malfunction that could result in more radiation will disable the set. Conclusion: There is basically no risk from close proximity to a television set while it is operating. However, there should be no compelling reason to remain so close. S. Julian Gibbs, DDS, PhD
