Answer to Question #1482 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"

Category: Radiation Safety Careers — Career Development and Certification

The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field:

Q
I believe that I meet requirements for ABHP Board Exam Part I. Do I have to be an HPS member to take the exam?
A
The requirements for applying for the Certification Examination are contained on the Web site of the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP), which is the certification arm of the American Academy of Health Physics (AAHP). The ABHP and AAHP are independent of the Health Physics Society.

The eligibility requirements for the certification exam are based on academic and work experience criteria and do not require membership in the Health Physics Society. However, I strongly urge you to consider membership in the Society in order to stay current on developments in the profession of health physics which are often reflected in the Certification Exams.
