Answer to Question #11116 Submitted to "Ask the Experts"
Category: Medical and Dental Patient Issues — Diagnostic X Ray and CT
The following question was answered by an expert in the appropriate field:
I am extremely worried about the radiation exposure to my five-year-old daughter from a head CT (computerized tomography) scan. I want to know whether any specific health effects can result from the CT scan. Can it cause hypoimmunity or alter the immune functions?
The radiation from a head CT scan would not have an effect on your daughter’s immune function nor would it cause hypoimmunity.
I encourage you to go to the Image Gently website and explore what you can do as a parent and review resources for parents.
