This paper discusses the ALARA program implemented at Chornobyl Unit-4 Shelter. The Shelter is the containment structure erected over the destroyed reactor. The G-7 countries (United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan) entered into an agreement with the government of the Ukraine to close the remaining units at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Station and to transform the existing Unit-4 Shelter ultimately into an environmentally safe system.
