Misconceptions and Portable Radiation Detection Instrument Training
T. E. Johnson
Many misconceptions exist among beginning radiation workers concerning the use of portable radiation detection instruments. A summary of the misconceptions and the training used to overcome the misconceptions is presented. The misconceptions can be generalized into three categories: That a particular instrument can detect all radiation, count rate instruments can measure exposure, and a lack of understanding of how to monitor for contamination or exposure.
