A Neutron Detector Based on Prompt Gamma Spectroscopy

A neutron detector based on detection of the prompt gamma radiation emitted as a result of neutron interaction with a suitable neutron absorber is described. The neutron detector presented in this work is based on the detection of the 477.6 keV prompt gamma from Li-7 in a gamma spectroscopy system. Results for detection of neutrons from a moderated Cf-252 source will be presented.
