Abstract

Beam loss in the Jefferson Lab accelerators produces locally intense ionizing radiation, which can damage the beamline vacuum or beam transport components. The Jefferson Lab nuclear physics and free electron laser accelerators use a novel photomultiplier based beam loss monitoring (MLM) system for both machine protection as well as beam diagnostics.
