News from SLAC
Mike Grissom
SLAC recently completed an on-site DOE Integrated Safety Management
Systems (ISMS) Phase II Validation Team review. The purpose of the ISMS
Validation was to ensure that the SLAC Safety Management System was properly
integrated throughout the laboratory. Many aspects of large research
accelerator operations were reviewed during this activity held during the
Summer months of 1999 including:
- Business Services Division (support role):
Including the Purchasing and Project Planning
aspects of the SPEAR3 project.
- Environment, Safety, and Health Division
(support role): For aspects of ISMS integration
involving the central organization for safety
issues including radiation safety, industrial
safety and environmental management.
- Technical Division (targeted): For ISMS
integration in the principal organization at
SLAC for the maintenance and operation of
the accelerators, including aspects of the
planning for the Next Linear Collider (NLC).
- Research Division (targeted): For ISMS
integration in the operation and design of
detectors such as BaBar, the activities
conducted by the High Energy Physics
users' community (SLUO), and future
planned projects including GLAST.
- SSRL Division (targeted): For ISMS
integration in the operation and design of
the light source and beamlines at SLAC
including the existing Stanford Synchrotron
Radiation Laboratory, the activities conducted
by the Basic Energy Sciences (BES) users'
community, and future planned projects
including SPEAR3.
