Although this issue of the Accelerator Radiation Safety Newsletter has only two contributions from correspondents, both are extensive articles. One is a tribute to the founding Director of Fermilab, Dr. Robert Rathbun Wilson, who died on 16 January 2000. The other is a year-end summary, and perhaps a career summary, from Manfred Hoefert at CERN who is stepping down as head of the CERN Radiation Protection Group after 9 years in that position. Both can be considered losses to the accelerator radiation safety community.

And speaking of this issue of the Accelerator Radiation Safety Newsletter, in keeping with the HPS trend to not use the term "radiation protection" and instead use "radiation safety," and also acknowledging the fact that the web version of the newsletter is popular and many people do not use the email version any more, the Accelerator Section board has decided to change the name of the newsletter. The International Accelerator Radiological Protection E-mail Newsletter will henceforth be known as the "Accelerator Radiation Safety Newsletter: Official Publication of the Accelerator Section of the Health Physics Society."

The Accelerator Section Board is also looking into the possibility of expanding the newsletter web site to be a more general HPS Accelerator Section web site that includes the newsletter. Stay tuned for further developments.
