Dosimetry Job Announcement
Argonne National Lab is looking for good candidates to fill an external dosimetry position. The external dosimetry specialist develops, implements, and maintains the external dosimetry monitoring program for the measurement of external radiation exposure of Argonne National Lab employees, contractors, students, and visitors. The person in this position interacts with the external dosimetry staff and serves as the Department of Energy Laboratory Accreditation Program (DOELAP) Program director backup for external dosimetry. The external dosimetry specialist maintains and tracks external radiation exposure records for monitored personnel and provides required reports and performs applied research and development to improve the external monitoring program and maintain continued compliance with regulatory requirements.

In addition, comprehensive knowledge of external radiation dosimetry, radiation-measuring instrumentation, and the interaction of ionizing radiation with matter is required. Considerable knowledge of general health physics, nuclear and atomic physics, and application of computer techniques is needed. Comprehensive knowledge of DOE requirements (such as 10CFR835) related to external dosimetry monitoring is required, including considerable knowledge of the DOELAP Program process. This position also requires good oral and written communication skills. This level of knowledge and skill is normally attained through formal education at the Master's degree level in health physics or general physics and four years of applied external dosimetry monitoring experience.
