The Editor's Corner

Linnea Wahl

This quarter's newsletter brings news from our section's president and president-to-be, both of whom urge us to think ahead to the Health Physics Society annual meeting next summer. Our US correspondents in this issue include colleagues from Lawrence Berkeley Lab, who have news of a radiation detection technique that may interest you, and from Fermilab, where they're considering new geological uses for accelerators! From our international correspondents, we have a note from KEK in Japan, and an update on operations at CERN in Switzerland. Finally, if you're a dosimetrist and considering a change, please take a look at the job posting at Argonne National Lab.

I always learn a lot when I edit this newsletter, and this quarter's issue was especially enlightening. Earthquakes in Indiana, integrated luminosity and femtobarns in Japan (thanks for your help, Steve Frey), and ambient natural doses in Switzerland - it was all news to me. Thanks to all of you for sending your fascinating articles in the past year. I hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as I enjoyed assembling it, and I hope that enjoyment leads you into a Happy New Year!
