From the Editor

Linnea Wahl
You may notice that this issue of the newsletter has a bit of a theme: in addition to our usual articles from correspondents, you'll find a couple pieces on ANSI standards. This emphasis is in response to readers who reminded me that not all who receive the newsletter are members of the Health Physics Society (HPS). One reader suggested reprinting the standards column from the HPS newsletter and another suggested reprinting abstracts from the Accelerator Section's session at the 2001 HPS annual meeting. Quite coincidentally, the abstract I chose was from Scott Walker's talk on ANSI Standard N43.1! I think the two articles complement each other well.

I think, too, that you'll enjoy the recap from Vashek Vylet and Graham Stevenson on the Erice course. It sounds like it was a great course in a lovely setting. No doubt the enticing announcements that the two authors provided in previous issues of this newsletter contributed to the attendance.

I hope you enjoy this issue of the newsletter. I know I've enjoyed producing it. In fact, I've enjoyed the entire year as newsletter editor. Thanks very much for your support, comments, and contributions to the newsletter. Please accept my wishes for another good year to come. Happy Holidays!
