Accelerator Radiation Protection Course in Erice, Sicily

Vaclav "Vashek" Vylet
Graham Stevenson
The Accelerator Section, in collaboration with our European colleagues from CERN, has been attempting to revive a series of courses originally organized in Erice, Sicily, throughout the seventies and early eighties. We have the pleasure of announcing that the efforts finally succeeded, and the next course is scheduled for October 3-9, 2001. The host institution is the Ettore Majorana Center for Science and Culture. Located in an ancient monastery, it provides both teaching facilities and housing for course participants and faculty. There is no tuition fee for the course, and the fee for room and board (three meals a day) is very reasonable ($100/day). Participants will receive (free of charge) the proceedings of the course, published as a special issue of Radiation Protection Dosimetry. These courses were made possible thanks to the generosity of the sponsoring organizations: European Commission (Research Directorate) and the Ettore Majorana Center. We hope that the US Department of Energy will also join in this effort.

Please find below a preliminary program. Official announcements will be distributed in the very near future. We hope that many of you will seize this unique opportunity and attend the course. Please contact us (Vashek Vylet at Duke University and Graham Stevenson at CERN) if you need further information.
