US Particle Accelerator School to Meet in Phoenix, Arizona

It’s not too soon to think about attending the next US Particle Accelerator School (USPAS) to be held in January 2006. The courses will be sponsored by Arizona State University and held in Phoenix, Arizona. Both two-week and one-week courses will be offered.

Four two-week courses will be held January 16-27. The courses will include

• Fundamental Accelerator Theory, Simulations, and Measurement Lab
• Accelerator Physics
• Microwave Linear Accelerators
• Microwave Measurement and Beam Instrumentation Lab

In addition, several one-week courses will be offered. During the first week, January 16-20, courses will include

• Beam-Based Diagnostics
• Superconducting Accelerator Magnets
• Radiation Physics, Regulation, and Management
• High-Current Beam Physics in Induction Accelerators

During the second week, January 23-27, the following courses will be offered.

• Fundamentals of Ion Sources
• Principles of Cryogenic Engineering
• System Safety and Safety Systems for Accelerators
• Accelerator Vacuum Engineering

Instructors for the courses include accelerator professionals from AREVA T&D, Brookhaven National Lab, Fermi National Accelerator Lab, Florida State University, Thomas Jefferson National Lab, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Lawrence Livermore National Lab, Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, University of Wisconsin, and Varian Medical Systems.
