Call for Nominees for H. Wade Patterson Award

Lorraine Marceau-Day

The H. Wade Patterson Award was established by the Accelerator Section of the Health Physics Society (HPS) to recognize outstanding student contributions to the special field of accelerator health physics. Each year, this section hosts a special accelerator session at the annual meeting of the HPS. This year, Alberto Fasso gave the keynote address.

In 2006, the special accelerator session will be held on Tuesday, June 27, at the Rhode Island Convention Center, Providence, Rhode Island, in the United States. I would like to encourage your students to submit an abstract. Though the eighth conference on shielding aspects of accelerators, targets, and irradiation facilities (SATIF 8) will be held at Korea's Pohang Light Source in May, many students may be unable to make the trip to Korea. Therefore, I would like to encourage your students to submit abstracts and to participate in the competition for the HPS award. Please note that only students are eligible. A further requirement is that they need to be present to accept the award at the Tuesday Accelerator Section business meeting.

An application form (in interactive pdf format) is available to be filled out by interested students. We regret that the HPS cannot, at this time, defray the costs of travel and housing to attend the meeting. We encourage all interested students to participate. The competition is open to all students in the world provided they work in the field of accelerator health physics. We look forward to many applications. Filled out forms should be returned to me by e-mail or by regular mail to
