Vakhtang Makarashvili, a graduate student at Idaho State University, was awarded the H. Wade Patterson Memorial Award for the best student paper on an accelerator-related topic at the annual Health Physics Society (HPS) meeting in Washington, DC. His paper was entitled "A Non-Destructive, Highly Penetrating Gamma Activation Assay of Uranics and Transuranics."
Vakhtang received a plaque and a check for $250. The members of the Accelerator Section offer their congratulations to Vakhtang for his excellent paper and wish him well in his future efforts.
The award was established by the Accelerator Section to honor the late Wade Patterson, one of the section’s founders, and to encourage and recognize the efforts of students at the beginning of their careers. The award is presented annually.
