Bob Casey

Each year the Accelerator Section Awards Committee seeks to identify candidates for recognition by the Health Physics Society (HPS). This year the section recommended Nolan Hertel as a fellow of the society and we are pleased to announce that he has been so honored.

Nolan has earned this recognition. The following comments are excerpted from the nominating letter prepared by the Awards Committee:

"Nolan has made significant administrative, educational, and scientific contributions to the profession of health physics. Dr. Hertel’s interests have been very broad and he has made significant contributions in many areas. In the scientific arena, he has contributed over 200 papers, presentations, and reports in many different areas of health physics, including radiation transport, shielding, particle interactions, dosimetry, and calibration. He has also served on many important scientific committees and panels, including a task group of ICRP Committee 2, and a panel of the Radiation Effects Research Foundation re-evaluating Japanese atomic bomb dosimetry. Nolan has also made important contributions to the education of young health physicists. Currently a professor in the Nuclear Engineering and Health Physics Program at Georgia Tech, he also served as an associate professor in the Nuclear Engineering area at the University of Texas."

The Accelerator Section congratulates Nolan Hertel on his selection as a fellow of the HPS.
