In this issue, we resume a long-standing tradition of inviting a guest writer to submit a special article. Our invited submission is from Wim Leemans, a researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, who has developed a compact (table-top), laser-driven particle accelerator. Special thanks to Dr. Leemans for preparing this article.
Our regular departments include news from our correspondent, Lorraine Day at Louisiana State University's Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices, about the shutdown at that facility. Other news includes a call for nominations for Accelerator Section officers, course and workshop announcements, information about the Accelerator Section's new web site, and, for those of you made restless by the spring weather, a couple job postings.
Thanks as always to those of you contributed articles and those who contributed moral support with your kind words about the last issue. Please keep this newsletter in mind as spring melts into summer: I'll be looking for submissions again in June!
