American National Standard N43.5
Radiological Safety Standard for the design of Radiographic and Radioscopic Non-Medical X-Ray Equipment Below 1 Mev
This
standard provides guidelines specific to the radiation safety aspects
of the design of non-medical x-ray equipment operating at energies
below 1 MeV for radiographic and radioscopic applications, wherein the
x-rays are generated by electronic means. It does not apply to x-ray
equipment used for industrial gauging applications. The objective is to
achieve safe design of nonmedical x-ray equipment by establishing
requirements for some components that are critical for radiation
safety. These include controls, panel displays, warning indicators,
tube assembly, and shielding. Other considerations, which are generally
the responsibility of the manufacturer, are also included. These
include instructions, provisions for means of connecting interlocks,
and labeling.
